Buying the 2019 Honda Civic EX

CarmaCars is a rental company and does not have the 2019 Honda Civic EX for sale right now. Rent one for a week first, or ask us to look for one. For anyone shopping for the 2019 Honda Civic EX, here are the facts that matter.

Before you sign for the Civic

A private seller in Ontario must give you a Used Vehicle Information Package. Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. Ask the seller for the service records of this exact car. Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it.

    The figures, translated

Power comes from the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo, driving through an automatic (CVT). It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

For 300 km of mixed driving, expect about 21 litres, from its 6.9 L/100 km rating. The fuel for 100 km comes to about $10.70 at our price setting. At US fuel prices, the EPA estimates US$1,960 a year for 15,000 miles.

    The Civic in everyday use

As a compact car, it is easy to drive and park in the city. The trunk holds 736 litres by the EPA's count: bulky luggage, a stroller or sports gear.

    Who rents the Civic

It suits anyone who needs a car for a few days, a week or a month without buying one. It suits a work trip where a reliable car matters more than anything else.

Rent it for a week first

Rent the Civic for a week and see how it fits your life. A week of your own driving tells you more than a test drive: the commute, the parking, the fuel. Renting first costs a fraction of the price of buying the wrong car.

    Money matters

Tires, brakes and batteries are the regular costs to budget for beyond fuel. Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary. The EPA estimates US$1,960 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices.

    Which one to look for

Set a budget that includes tax, licensing, insurance and the first set of tires. A newer year is not always better; check what changed before paying more for it. If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person.
