Thinking of buying the 2020 Honda Civic LX?

CarmaCars rents cars and does not sell the 2020 Honda Civic LX; this page helps you judge it before you buy one elsewhere. Here is what to know about the 2020 Honda Civic LX before buying one.

Before you sign for the Civic

Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it. In Ontario, a used car needs a Safety Standards Certificate to be registered. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace. A private seller in Ontario must give you a Used Vehicle Information Package.

    Reading the spec sheet

Its powertrain is the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo with front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

It is rated 6.9 L/100 km combined: about 21 litres every 300 km. At our price setting, driving 100 km costs about $10.70, and a 300 km weekend about $32.10. The EPA estimates US$1,960 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles.

    Living with the Civic

A car body like this keeps the weight low, so it feels settled on the highway. The EPA lists 736 litres for luggage, roughly bulky luggage, a stroller or sports gear.

    Good uses for the Civic

It suits a stretch of weeks between selling one car and buying the next. It suits someone whose own car is in the shop for a while.

    Try before you buy

Rent the Civic for a week, or up to 365 days, before you commit to buying one. Load it with your things and park it where you park; then decide. Drive the Civic on your commute before you commit to it.

    The cost of driving it

Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary. At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.70 in fuel. The EPA estimates US$1,960 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices.

    Year and trim

A newer year is not always better; check what changed before paying more for it. Decide what matters most first: fuel use, space, or the price you can pay. If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person.

    Yameri and the Civic

If you are starting from Toronto, rent the car here and drive it to Yameri. Yameri is about 3,364 km from our Toronto location, beyond the area we deliver to.

    When you know your dates

Ask about renting first, and buy with a clear head.
