Thinking of buying the 2020 Honda Civic Type R?

CarmaCars rents cars and does not sell the 2020 Honda Civic Type R; this page helps you judge it before you buy one elsewhere. Before you buy the 2020 Honda Civic Type R, here is what the figures say and what to look at.

What to check on the Civic

Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace. A pre-purchase inspection at a shop you choose is money well spent. Ask the seller for the service records of this exact car. In Ontario, a used car needs a Safety Standards Certificate to be registered.

    Engine and fuel

The powertrain to know here is the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo, with front-wheel drive. The turbo gives a small engine the pull of a bigger one when you need it. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

The EPA rates it at 6.9 L/100 km combined, so a 300 km weekend uses about 21 litres. That works out to about $10.70 per 100 km at our price setting. At US fuel prices, the EPA estimates US$1,960 a year for 15,000 miles.

    Living with the Civic

Its car body is low and settled, with a separate trunk. Luggage space is rated at 736 litres: bulky luggage, a stroller or sports gear.

    Good uses for the Civic

It suits a stretch of weeks between selling one car and buying the next. It suits a family trip where everyone and everything fits in one car.

    A longer test drive

Load it with your things and park it where you park; then decide. If the Civic is in our fleet, its page shows the rates; if not, a similar car helps you judge. A week with the Civic answers more than any brochure.

    The cost of driving it

Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary. The EPA estimates US$1,960 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices. At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.70 in fuel.

Picking a year and a trim

Look at a few listings of the same year and trim to get a feel for fair prices. If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person. Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary.

    A note on Yameri

If you need it in Yameri itself, send a request and we will tell you honestly whether we can help. Yameri is about 3,364 km from Toronto, outside our delivery area.
