The 2016 Jeep Cherokee Altitude: before you buy

We rent cars and sell one only now and then. There is no 2016 Jeep Cherokee Altitude for sale by us right now. For anyone shopping for the 2016 Jeep Cherokee Altitude, here are the facts that matter.

    Recalls and complaints

A private seller in Ontario must give you a Used Vehicle Information Package. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace. Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it.

    What the specs mean

The 2.4L 4-cylinder is what moves it, with front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

Expect about 29 litres for every 300 km, going by its 9.6 L/100 km combined rating. In money, 1,000 km costs about $148.80 at our price setting. The EPA estimates US$2,700 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles.

    Who rents the Cherokee

Families, skiers and anyone with bulky luggage. It suits someone whose own car is in the shop for a while.

    Inside and out

Its SUV body gives a high seating position and an easy load height.

Rent it for a week first

A test week in the Cherokee tells you more than any review. A week with the Cherokee answers more than any brochure. Rent the Cherokee for a week, or up to 365 days, before you commit to buying one.

Picking a year and a trim

Set a budget that includes tax, licensing, insurance and the first set of tires. Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary. If you are unsure between two options, rent one of them for a week first.

    The cost of driving it

The EPA estimates US$2,700 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices. At our price setting, 100 km costs about $14.88 in fuel. A 1,000 km month costs roughly $148.80 at our price setting.

    The Cherokee and Java

Java is about 770 km from Toronto, outside our delivery area. If you are starting from Toronto, rent the car here and drive it to Java.
