The 2016 Jeep Cherokee Limited for buyers

CarmaCars rents cars and does not sell the 2016 Jeep Cherokee Limited; this page helps you judge it before you buy one elsewhere. Before buying the 2016 Jeep Cherokee Limited, read what the figures say and how to try one first.

What to check on the Cherokee

In Ontario, a used car needs a Safety Standards Certificate to be registered. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace. There are 9 NHTSA recall campaigns on file; a dealer can check by the VIN whether each was done. Ask for the service records and check open recalls by the VIN.

    What the figures tell you

The 2.4L 4-cylinder is what moves it, with front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

The combined figure, 9.6 L/100 km, means roughly 29 litres for 300 km. In money, 1,000 km costs about $148.80 at our price setting. At US fuel prices, the EPA estimates US$2,700 a year for 15,000 miles.

    Room inside

The higher seat of a compact SUV gives a good view of the road in traffic.

Is it right for your trip?

It suits winter trips and weekends with more gear than people. It suits a family trip where everyone and everything fits in one car.

    Try before you buy

Rent the Cherokee for a week, or up to 365 days, before you commit to buying one. A test week in the Cherokee tells you more than any review. If it is in our fleet, rent it; if not, a similar car gives you a feel for the class.

    Running costs

The EPA estimates US$2,700 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices. At our price setting, 100 km costs about $14.88 in fuel. Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary.

    Year and trim

If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person. Compare the Limited with the other trims of the same year before you decide. Write down the VIN of any car you consider; it unlocks the recall and service history.

    Java and the Cherokee

If you are starting from Toronto, rent the car here and drive it to Java. Java is about 770 km from our Toronto location, beyond the area we deliver to.
