Thinking of buying the 2019 Toyota Corolla SE?

CarmaCars rents cars and does not sell the 2019 Toyota Corolla SE; this page helps you judge it before you buy one elsewhere. Here is what to know about the 2019 Toyota Corolla SE before buying one.

What to check on the Corolla

A private seller in Ontario must give you a Used Vehicle Information Package. Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it. There are 6 NHTSA recall campaigns on file; a dealer can check by the VIN whether each was done. Owners filed 205 complaints with NHTSA, most often about power train, engine and air bags; have those parts checked.

The numbers in plain words

Its powertrain is the 2.0L 4-cylinder with front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

Its combined rating is 6.6 L/100 km, which means roughly 20 litres for 300 km. In energy, every 100 km costs about $10.23 at our price setting. EPA puts its fuel cost at US$1,850 a year for 15,000 miles at US prices.

Practical details

It is a straightforward car to drive, park and live with. Luggage space is 510 litres, enough for a family's bags for a long weekend.

Who rents the Corolla

It suits a weekend away when the train does not reach where you are going. It suits people curious about the model who want to drive it before they buy.

A longer test drive

If it is in our fleet, rent it; if not, a similar car gives you a feel for the class. A test week in the Corolla tells you more than any review. Try the Corolla on your commute, then decide.

The cost of driving it

Tires, brakes and batteries are the regular costs to budget for beyond fuel. Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models. A 1,000 km month costs roughly $102.30 at our price setting.

Narrowing it down

If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person. If you are unsure between two options, rent one of them for a week first. Set a budget that includes tax, licensing, insurance and the first set of tires.

Make a request

Rent it for a week, then decide: send a request with your dates.
