Thinking of buying the 2021 Toyota Corolla L?

We rent cars and sell one only now and then. There is no 2021 Toyota Corolla L for sale by us right now. This page helps you judge the 2021 Toyota Corolla L before you buy one anywhere.

    Recalls and complaints

Ask for the service records and check open recalls by the VIN. Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. A private seller in Ontario must give you a Used Vehicle Information Package. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace.

    What the figures tell you

Power comes from the 2.0L 4-cylinder, driving through a 10-speed automatic. It runs on regular gas. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

By the EPA's combined rating of 6.6 L/100 km, 300 km takes about 20 litres. A 300 km weekend costs about $30.69 in energy at our price setting. At US fuel prices, the EPA estimates US$1,900 a year for 15,000 miles.

    Room inside

Its car body is low and settled, with a separate trunk. Luggage space is rated at 510 litres: a family's bags for a long weekend.

    Good uses for the Corolla

It suits a family trip where everyone and everything fits in one car. It suits a stretch of weeks between selling one car and buying the next.

    A longer test drive

If the Corolla is in our fleet, its page shows the rates; if not, a similar car helps you judge. Drive the Corolla on your commute before you commit to it. Rent the Corolla first, and buy only if it fits your life.

    Money matters

At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.23 in fuel. A 1,000 km month costs roughly $102.30 at our price setting. A pre-purchase inspection is a small cost next to the price of the car.

    Which one to look for

Compare the L with the other trims of the same year before you decide. Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary. A newer year is not always better; check what changed before paying more for it.
