Buying the 2021 Toyota Corolla L

CarmaCars rents cars and does not sell the 2021 Toyota Corolla L; this page helps you judge it before you buy one elsewhere. This page helps you judge the 2021 Toyota Corolla L before you buy one anywhere.

Before you sign for the Corolla

In Ontario, a used car needs a Safety Standards Certificate to be registered. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace. NHTSA lists 1 recall campaigns for this model; ask the seller for proof each one was fixed. Ask the seller for the service records of this exact car.

    What the specs mean

The 2.0L 4-cylinder with front-wheel drive is the powertrain to look at. It runs on regular gas. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

Expect about 20 litres for every 300 km, going by its 6.6 L/100 km combined rating. For 1,000 km, budget about $102.30 at our price setting. At US fuel prices, the EPA estimates US$1,900 a year for 15,000 miles.

Is it right for your trip?

It suits a stretch of weeks between selling one car and buying the next. It suits visitors who want a familiar car for a week in town.

    What the Corolla is like

As a compact car, it is easy to drive and park in the city. The EPA measures its luggage space at 510 litres, roughly a family's bags for a long weekend.

    A longer test drive

Rent the Corolla for a week and see how it fits your life. Rent first, buy later: a week with the Corolla answers the big questions. A test week in the Corolla tells you more than any review.

Picking a year and a trim

Set a budget that includes tax, licensing, insurance and the first set of tires. Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary. Write down the VIN of any car you consider; it unlocks the recall and service history.

    What it costs to run

A pre-purchase inspection is a small cost next to the price of the car. At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.23 in fuel. Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models.
