Specs, explained

Power comes from the 3.0L 6-cylinder turbo, driving through an 8-speed automatic. It runs on diesel, sold at most highway stations. Rear-wheel drive gives balanced handling; in winter, the tires make the biggest difference.

By the EPA's combined rating of 9.0 L/100 km, 300 km takes about 27 litres. At our price setting, it costs about $13.95 to drive 100 km.

Living with the 1500

It is built for loads that would never fit in a trunk.

When the 1500 makes sense

It suits a weekend away when the train does not reach where you are going. It suits someone whose own car is in the shop for a while.

Rent this car

Ask for your dates, and we reply with what we can offer. Meanwhile, 6 similar cars are listed below. None in our fleet right now; ask and we look for one for your dates. Delivery is priced by distance in your offer, and pickup from us is free.

Requirements

Every driver must be 18 or older with an Ontario G2 or G licence. If you are under 26, expect a young driver fee each day; there is no upper age limit. Bring a card in your name; a card in someone else's name cannot be used.

Liability to other people is included in every rate. For the car itself, pick your own policy (OPCF 27), a card with rental car benefits, or the CarmaCars Protection Plan. The deposit comes about 1 hour before you get the car, not at booking. Additional drivers can be added; each one meets the same rules and signs the agreement.

What to expect when you book

You start by asking: a car, a start time, an end time. Asking is free. We look at the request and send back an offer with the price for your exact dates. You decide: approve and pay, or let it go. No charge either way until you approve.

The calendar on each car's page helps you pick dates that work. The longer the booking, the lower the rate a day tends to be. The minimum notice is 2 hours, so an afternoon pickup can be requested in the morning.
