Java and the A4

Frankfort, Sharples and Raab Corners are the closest places to Java on our list.

What the specs mean

It is powered by the 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo hybrid, with all-wheel drive. It is a hybrid: the battery charges itself as you drive and brake, so there is nothing to plug in. With all-wheel drive, it pulls away more surely on slippery roads, though it does not stop any shorter.

Its combined rating is 8.3 L/100 km, which means roughly 25 litres for 300 km. That works out to about $12.87 per 100 km at our price setting.

Good uses for the A4

It suits someone whose own car is in the shop for a while. It suits a stretch between cars, by the week or the month.

Space, size and seats

Its car body is low and settled, with a separate trunk. At 340 litres, the trunk fits about two large suitcases and a few soft bags.

Driver requirements

Ontario G2 or G licences are accepted, for drivers 18 and older. There is no maximum age. Drivers under 26 pay a young driver fee each day. Your licence and the card you paid with come with you to the pickup.

Before the keys change hands, one of three options must be in place for the car: OPCF 27, a card benefit, or the CarmaCars Protection Plan. We take the deposit shortly before pickup and return it after the car comes back. Additional drivers can be added; each one meets the same rules and signs the agreement.

The steps

Your part at the start is short: choose a car and dates and send a free request. We reply with an offer for the car and the dates, priced in full. If you approve, you pay and the car is yours for those dates.

Each car's calendar shows the days it is already booked. Longer trips cost less a day: the weekly rate starts at 7 days. Pickups need at least 2 hours of notice from the time you send the request.
