The 2020 Honda Civic LX: before you buy

CarmaCars is a rental company and does not have the 2020 Honda Civic LX for sale right now. Rent one for a week first, or ask us to look for one. For anyone shopping for the 2020 Honda Civic LX, here are the facts that matter.

    Recalls and complaints

A pre-purchase inspection at a shop you choose is money well spent. Ask the seller for the service records of this exact car. There are 5 NHTSA recall campaigns on file; a dealer can check by the VIN whether each was done. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace.

    What the figures tell you

The 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo does the work, through an automatic (CVT). It runs on regular gas. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

The combined figure, 6.9 L/100 km, means roughly 21 litres for 300 km. A 300 km weekend costs about $32.10 in energy at our price setting. The EPA estimates US$1,960 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles.

    Space and size

Being a compact car, it is easy to park and comfortable on longer drives. The EPA measures its luggage space at 736 litres, roughly bulky luggage, a stroller or sports gear.

    A good match for

It suits someone whose own car is in the shop for a while. It suits visitors who want a familiar car for a week in town.

    A longer test drive

Drive the Civic on your commute before you commit to it. If it is in our fleet, rent it; if not, a similar car gives you a feel for the class. Nothing is charged until we confirm the rental and you approve the offer.

    The cost of driving it

Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models. The EPA estimates US$1,960 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices. Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary.

    Choosing the right one

Compare the LX with the other trims of the same year before you decide. Write down the VIN of any car you consider; it unlocks the recall and service history. Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary.

    A note on Farmbrook

If you need it in Farmbrook itself, send a request and we will tell you honestly whether we can help. Farmbrook is about 509 km from Toronto, outside our delivery area.
