Thinking of buying the 2020 Toyota Corolla SE?

We are a rental company, not a dealer, so there is no 2020 Toyota Corolla SE for sale by us right now. Before buying the 2020 Toyota Corolla SE, read what the figures say and how to try one first.

    A buyer's checks

There are 6 NHTSA recall campaigns on file; a dealer can check by the VIN whether each was done. Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it. Owners filed 314 complaints with NHTSA, most often about engine, unknown or other and power train; have those parts checked. Look at the tires, brakes and battery; they are costly to replace.

    The figures, translated

The powertrain here is the 2.0L 4-cylinder with front-wheel drive and an automatic (CVT). It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

Rated at 6.8 L/100 km combined, it needs around 20 litres for a 300 km round trip. The fuel for 100 km comes to about $10.54 at our price setting. EPA puts its fuel cost at US$1,925 a year for 15,000 miles at US prices.

    Size and space

As a compact car, it is easy to drive and park in the city. For luggage, 510 litres means a family's bags for a long weekend.

    Best uses

It suits a family trip where everyone and everything fits in one car. It suits anyone who needs a car for a few days, a week or a month without buying one.

Rent it for a week first

Renting first costs a fraction of the price of buying the wrong car. Rent first, buy later: a week with the Corolla answers the big questions. Drive the Corolla on your commute before you commit to it.

    The cost of driving it

Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary. A 1,000 km month costs roughly $105.40 at our price setting. Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models.

Picking a year and a trim

A newer year is not always better; check what changed before paying more for it. Decide what matters most first: fuel use, space, or the price you can pay. If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person.

    Java and the Corolla

If you are starting from Toronto, rent the car here and drive it to Java. Java is about 1,639 km from Toronto, outside our delivery area.
