The 2020 Toyota Corolla SE for buyers

We are a rental company, not a dealer, so there is no 2020 Toyota Corolla SE for sale by us right now. This page helps you judge the 2020 Toyota Corolla SE before you buy one anywhere.

Before you sign for the Corolla

NHTSA has 314 owner complaints on file, mostly about engine, unknown or other and power train. In Ontario, a used car needs a Safety Standards Certificate to be registered. Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it. Ask the seller for the service records of this exact car.

    What the figures tell you

The powertrain to know here is the 2.0L 4-cylinder, with front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

By the EPA's combined rating of 6.8 L/100 km, 300 km takes about 20 litres. Expect about $10.54 per 100 km at our price setting. The EPA estimates US$1,925 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles.

    How big it is

Being a compact car, it is easy to park and comfortable on longer drives. The trunk holds 510 litres by the EPA's count: a family's bags for a long weekend.

    Who it is for

It suits visitors who want a familiar car for a week in town. It suits a stretch of weeks between selling one car and buying the next.

    A longer test drive

Load it with your things and park it where you park; then decide. Rent first, buy later: a week with the Corolla answers the big questions. Renting first costs a fraction of the price of buying the wrong car.

    What it costs to run

A 1,000 km month costs roughly $105.40 at our price setting. Tires, brakes and batteries are the regular costs to budget for beyond fuel. Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary.

Picking a year and a trim

Look at a few listings of the same year and trim to get a feel for fair prices. Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary. A newer year is not always better; check what changed before paying more for it.
