Buying the 2021 Toyota Corolla L

We rent cars and sell one only now and then. There is no 2021 Toyota Corolla L for sale by us right now. This page sets out the 2021 Toyota Corolla L for buyers, in plain words.

Before you sign for the Corolla

NHTSA has 187 owner complaints on file, mostly about air bags, engine and unknown or other. Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it. There are 1 NHTSA recall campaigns on file; a dealer can check by the VIN whether each was done. In Ontario, a used car needs a Safety Standards Certificate to be registered.

    Under the hood

The 2.0L 4-cylinder with front-wheel drive is the powertrain to look at. It runs on regular gas. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

It is rated 6.6 L/100 km combined: about 20 litres every 300 km. That works out to about $10.23 per 100 km at our price setting. The EPA estimates US$1,900 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles.

    A good match for

It suits a stretch of weeks between selling one car and buying the next. It suits a family trip where everyone and everything fits in one car.

    Space and size

As a compact car, it has a closed trunk that keeps luggage out of sight. The trunk holds 510 litres by the EPA's count: a family's bags for a long weekend.

    Try before you buy

A week with the Corolla answers more than any brochure. Rent it, live with it for a week, and decide with real experience. Rent first, buy later: a week with the Corolla answers the big questions.

    Year and trim

Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary. Decide what matters most first: fuel use, space, or the price you can pay. Look at a few listings of the same year and trim to get a feel for fair prices.

    Running costs

At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.23 in fuel. The EPA estimates US$1,900 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices. A 1,000 km month costs roughly $102.30 at our price setting.

    Renting for Java

We rent from Toronto only. If your trip to Java starts in the Toronto area, rent the car here. We have no location in Java; CarmaCars rents from Toronto, about 442 km away.
