The 2021 Toyota Corolla L: before you buy

We rent cars and sell one only now and then. There is no 2021 Toyota Corolla L for sale by us right now. This page helps you judge the 2021 Toyota Corolla L before you buy one anywhere.

What to check on the Corolla

A private seller in Ontario must give you a Used Vehicle Information Package. Ask for the service records and check open recalls by the VIN. Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. NHTSA has 187 owner complaints on file, mostly about air bags, engine and unknown or other.

    Engine and fuel

The powertrain to know here is the 2.0L 4-cylinder, with front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

Expect about 20 litres for every 300 km, going by its 6.6 L/100 km combined rating. Expect about $10.23 per 100 km at our price setting. At US fuel prices, the EPA estimates US$1,900 a year for 15,000 miles.

    Size and space

It is a straightforward car to drive, park and live with. EPA lists 510 litres of luggage space, enough for a family's bags for a long weekend.

    Good uses for the Corolla

It suits a weekend away when the train does not reach where you are going. It suits a stretch between cars, by the week or the month.

    Try before you buy

Rent the Corolla for a week, or up to 365 days, before you commit to buying one. A test week in the Corolla tells you more than any review. Load it with your things and park it where you park; then decide.

    Running costs

Tires, brakes and batteries are the regular costs to budget for beyond fuel. At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.23 in fuel. Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models.

    Year and trim

Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary. If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person. If you are unsure between two options, rent one of them for a week first.

    A note on Java

We rent from Toronto only. If your trip to Java starts in the Toronto area, rent the car here. CarmaCars is based in Toronto, about 442 km from Java, and does not deliver there.
