Buying the 2021 Toyota Corolla L

CarmaCars rents cars and does not sell the 2021 Toyota Corolla L; this page helps you judge it before you buy one elsewhere. Before you buy the 2021 Toyota Corolla L, here is what the figures say and what to look at.

Before you sign for the Corolla

NHTSA lists 1 recall campaigns for this model; ask the seller for proof each one was fixed. Owners filed 187 complaints with NHTSA, most often about air bags, engine and unknown or other; have those parts checked. Have a mechanic inspect a used one before you buy it. Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay.

    The figures, translated

The powertrain here is the 2.0L 4-cylinder with front-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic. It runs on regular gas. With front-wheel drive, the weight of the engine sits over the driven wheels, which helps in winter.

The EPA rates it at 6.6 L/100 km combined, so a 300 km weekend uses about 20 litres. A weekend of 300 km comes to about $30.69 at our price setting. The EPA estimates US$1,900 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles.

    When the Corolla makes sense

It suits commuters, couples and business trips. It suits a family trip where everyone and everything fits in one car.

    Inside and out

Being a compact car, it is easy to park and comfortable on longer drives. Luggage space is rated at 510 litres: a family's bags for a long weekend.

Drive it on your own roads

Rent the Corolla first, and buy only if it fits your life. A test week in the Corolla tells you more than any review. Rent it, live with it for a week, and decide with real experience.

    Year and trim

Compare the L with the other trims of the same year before you decide. If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person. Look at a few listings of the same year and trim to get a feel for fair prices.

    The cost of driving it

A 1,000 km month costs roughly $102.30 at our price setting. At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.23 in fuel. Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models.

    A note on Knobs

We have no location in Knobs; CarmaCars rents from Toronto, about 692 km away. If you are starting from Toronto, rent the car here and drive it to Knobs.
