Thinking of buying the 2021 Toyota Corolla L?

We rent cars and sell one only now and then. There is no 2021 Toyota Corolla L for sale by us right now. For anyone shopping for the 2021 Toyota Corolla L, here are the facts that matter.

Before you sign for the Corolla

Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. Ask for the service records and check open recalls by the VIN. A private seller in Ontario must give you a Used Vehicle Information Package. A pre-purchase inspection at a shop you choose is money well spent.

    Engine and fuel

It uses the 2.0L 4-cylinder and front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

Fuel use is rated 6.6 L/100 km combined, so 300 km needs about 20 litres. Expect about $10.23 per 100 km at our price setting. EPA puts its fuel cost at US$1,900 a year for 15,000 miles at US prices.

    Size and space

Its car body is low and settled, with a separate trunk. The EPA measures its luggage space at 510 litres, roughly a family's bags for a long weekend.

    Who rents the Corolla

It suits a stretch of weeks between selling one car and buying the next. It suits anyone who needs a car for a few days, a week or a month without buying one.

Rent it for a week first

Renting first costs a fraction of the price of buying the wrong car. A test week in the Corolla tells you more than any review. Rent the Corolla for a week and see how it fits your life.

    Money matters

The EPA estimates US$1,900 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices. At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.23 in fuel. Tires, brakes and batteries are the regular costs to budget for beyond fuel.

    Narrowing it down

Compare the L with the other trims of the same year before you decide. Decide what matters most first: fuel use, space, or the price you can pay. Look at a few listings of the same year and trim to get a feel for fair prices.
