Thinking of buying the 2021 Toyota Corolla LE?

We are a rental company, not a dealer, so there is no 2021 Toyota Corolla LE for sale by us right now. This page puts the 2021 Toyota Corolla LE in plain words for buyers: what it uses, what to check, and how to try one first.

What to check on the Corolla

In Ontario, a used car needs a Safety Standards Certificate to be registered. A private seller in Ontario must give you a Used Vehicle Information Package. Ask the seller for the service records of this exact car. Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay.

    Under the hood

The 2.0L 4-cylinder is what moves it, with front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

The EPA rates it at 6.6 L/100 km combined, so a 300 km weekend uses about 20 litres. Every 100 km costs about $10.23 in fuel at our price setting. The EPA estimates US$1,900 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles.

    Living with the Corolla

A car body like this keeps the weight low, so it feels settled on the highway. Luggage space is 510 litres, enough for a family's bags for a long weekend.

    Who the Corolla suits

It suits a stretch of weeks between selling one car and buying the next. It suits a family trip where everyone and everything fits in one car.

    Try before you buy

If it is in our fleet, rent it; if not, a similar car gives you a feel for the class. Nothing is charged until we confirm the rental and you approve the offer. A week of your own driving tells you more than a test drive: the commute, the parking, the fuel.

    The cost of driving it

Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary. Tires, brakes and batteries are the regular costs to budget for beyond fuel. A pre-purchase inspection is a small cost next to the price of the car.

    Which one to look for

Compare the LE with the other trims of the same year before you decide. If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person. Look at a few listings of the same year and trim to get a feel for fair prices.

    Java and the Corolla

If you are starting from Toronto, rent the car here and drive it to Java. We have no location in Java; CarmaCars rents from Toronto, about 770 km away.
