The 2020 Honda Civic EX for buyers

We rent cars and sell one only now and then. There is no 2020 Honda Civic EX for sale by us right now. Here is what to know about the 2020 Honda Civic EX before buying one.

What to check on the Civic

Check whether every recall was done, by the VIN, before you pay. A pre-purchase inspection at a shop you choose is money well spent. In Ontario, a used car needs a Safety Standards Certificate to be registered. There are 5 NHTSA recall campaigns on file; a dealer can check by the VIN whether each was done.

    What the figures tell you

The powertrain to know here is the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo, with front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

The combined figure, 6.9 L/100 km, means roughly 21 litres for 300 km. A weekend of 300 km comes to about $32.10 at our price setting. The EPA estimates US$1,960 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles.

    Who the Civic suits

It suits someone whose own car is in the shop for a while. It suits commuters, couples and business trips.

    Space and size

As a compact car, it is easy to drive and park in the city. EPA lists 736 litres of luggage space, enough for bulky luggage, a stroller or sports gear.

Drive it on your own roads

Rent the Civic for a week, or up to 365 days, before you commit to buying one. A test week in the Civic tells you more than any review. If it is in our fleet, rent it; if not, a similar car gives you a feel for the class.

Picking a year and a trim

If you are unsure between two options, rent one of them for a week first. A newer year is not always better; check what changed before paying more for it. If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person.

    Money matters

The EPA estimates US$1,960 a year in fuel for 15,000 miles at US prices. Get an insurance quote for this exact model before you buy; rates differ a lot between models. At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.70 in fuel.

    Farmbrook and the Civic

CarmaCars is based in Toronto, about 509 km from Farmbrook, and does not deliver there. We rent from Toronto only. If your trip to Farmbrook starts in the Toronto area, rent the car here.
