White 2020 Honda Civic EX for sale in Farmbrook

Buying the 2020 Honda Civic EX

CarmaCars rents cars and does not sell the 2020 Honda Civic EX; this page helps you judge it before you buy one elsewhere. Here is the 2020 Honda Civic EX for buyers: fuel use, size, recalls and a test drive that lasts a week.

Before you sign for the Civic

Owners filed 236 complaints with NHTSA, most often about electrical system, unknown or other and power train; have those parts checked. Ask for the service records and check open recalls by the VIN. A pre-purchase inspection at a shop you choose is money well spent. NHTSA lists 5 recall campaigns for this model; ask the seller for proof each one was fixed.

Under the hood

Under the hood: the 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo and front-wheel drive. It runs on regular gas. Front-wheel drive is the usual layout for cars this size, predictable in the rain and the snow.

By the EPA's combined rating of 6.9 L/100 km, 300 km takes about 21 litres. At our price setting, driving 100 km costs about $10.70, and a 300 km weekend about $32.10. At US fuel prices, the EPA estimates US$1,960 a year for 15,000 miles.

Who rents the Civic

It suits a family trip where everyone and everything fits in one car. It suits a stretch of weeks between selling one car and buying the next.

How big it is

It is a straightforward car to drive, park and live with. With 736 litres of luggage space by the EPA's measure, it takes bulky luggage, a stroller or sports gear.

Try before you buy

A week with the Civic answers more than any brochure. Renting first costs a fraction of the price of buying the wrong car. Nothing is charged until we confirm the rental and you approve the offer.

Which one to look for

Write down the VIN of any car you consider; it unlocks the recall and service history. Ask the seller which trim it is; badges can be swapped and options vary. If two trims share a powertrain, the difference is equipment, which you can check in person.

What it costs to run

At our price setting, 100 km costs about $10.70 in fuel. A 1,000 km month costs roughly $107 at our price setting. Ask what a set of tires costs for this trim; sizes and prices vary.
